It has been announced that American Wood Type, the work of the patron saint of the medium, Rob Roy Kelly, is being republished by Liber Apertus Press as a $30 softcover facsimile. This is great news, and I must extend heartfelt gratitude to Liber Apertus for working out the copyright details and putting this incredible book back in print. I love type with optical sizes. There really isn’t enough of it. But most faces with optical sizes are workhorse types for publication designers. Designers at Adobe and H&FJ give lots of love to text fonts, but big girls need love too. That’s why I’m working on fat face with optical sizes ranging from 12 to 120 points.

The Type Society has released Font Aid 4, a font of ampersands being sold to aid relief efforts of Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. You can read about it or just buy it. $20 gets you a few hundred ampersands (I drew one) collected into a font by Chank Diesel.
